How to find Amazon products with open video slots
A repeatable way to find products whose video carousel still has room for an influencer video, without opening every product page by hand.
Updated
A product has an open slot when its upper video carousel shows fewer than three influencer videos. The fastest way to find them is to research by category, check demand first and only then count the carousel.
Step 1: start from demand, not from the carousel
An open slot on a product that sells twice a month earns almost nothing. Start from products people buy:
- search a category you can film well (kitchen, home, pets, baby, tools…);
- look for “X bought in past month” on the result cards;
- skip products with very few ratings unless they’re new and clearly selling.
Step 2: open the candidates and count
Open each candidate’s product page and look at the upper video carousel, near the product images. Count only influencer videos; brand and customer videos don’t compete with you for the same reason.
| Influencer videos | Decision |
|---|---|
| 0–2 | Film it if demand and price look good |
| 3–5 | Film it only if it sells a lot or you can make a clearly better video |
| 6 or more | Usually skip, unless it’s a best seller in your niche |
Step 3: check the variant and the price
Since April 14, 2026, onsite commission only counts the exact variant you tag. Before you order the product:
- count the sizes and colors;
- compare “bought in past month” across the variants you open;
- note the price of the variant you’d tag and its category rate.
The per-sale estimate is simply price × rate. A $45 product in a 3% category pays about $1.35 per sale; check it in the calculator.
Step 4: keep a list
Research is wasted if you lose track of it. Keep a list with the ASIN, the status (researching, ordered, filmed, uploaded, earning), the product value and the date it arrived. The last two matter at tax time if you keep products you receive.
What CarouselScout does at each step
| Step | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Count the carousel and show the status | Every product, no limit | Every product, no limit |
| Score 0–100 with the breakdown | 10 products a day | No limit |
| Per-sale estimate for the variant | 10 products a day | No limit |
| Compare variants you opened | — | Yes |
| Badges on search results from your saved counts | — | Yes |
| Highlight the 5 best candidates on a results page | — | Yes |
| Work list with CSV export | — | Yes |
CarouselScout only reads pages you open. It doesn’t browse Amazon in the background, so search badges show the last count saved for products you’ve opened, or “Open to check”.
Mistakes that waste a week
- Filming the first variant you opened. With 10+ variants, the one you landed on is often not the one people buy.
- Trusting an old count. Carousels fill up. Recheck products you researched more than a week ago.
- Counting brand videos as competition. They take space, but your real competition for the slots is other influencers.
- Ignoring price. At 3%, a $9 product pays $0.27 per sale. You need a lot of sales for that to be worth the filming time.

FAQ
Is there a list of products with open slots?
No reliable public list exists, and building one would mean crawling Amazon, which CarouselScout doesn’t do. The useful list is the one you build from categories you can film well.
How often should I recheck a product?
Before you order it, and again before you film if more than a week has passed. Pro saves each count and shows how fast the carousel is filling.
Does an open slot guarantee my video will show?
No. Amazon decides placement. An open slot means less competition, not a guaranteed position.
