Amazon influencer onsite commissions after April 14, 2026

Since April 14, 2026 onsite commission only pays on the exact variant you tag. What changed, what it costs you and how to pick the right variant.

Updated

Onsite commissions are what you earn when a shopper watches your video on an Amazon product page and then buys. Since April 14, 2026, they only count purchases of the same variant (ASIN) as the product page your video is linked to.

What onsite commissions are

When you upload a shoppable video in Creator Hub and link it to a product, Amazon can show it on that product’s detail page: in the video row near the product images or in the video section further down. If a shopper watches it and buys, the sale is attributed to you as an onsite sale.

Offsite commissions are different: they come from your storefront and links you share on social media.

What changed on April 14, 2026

Amazon’s Associates Operating Agreement update of April 14, 2026 says onsite commission income is calculated only on Direct Qualifying Purchases of the same ASIN variant as the linked product detail page. The same update also set a 180-day window for products to be shipped and paid for, and excluded purchases from customers referred through paid or boosted ads, with limited exceptions. You can read the summary on Amazon’s What’s changed page.

Before the change, many creators earned on “halo” sales: the shopper watched your video for one variant and bought another size or color, or added other products to the cart. Those sales no longer pay onsite commission.

Before and after, with one example

You film a hoodie and tag the navy, size M variant at $39.99 in a 3% category.

Shopper buys Before April 14 From April 14
Navy, size M About $1.20 About $1.20
Black, size L About $1.20 $0.00
Navy M plus a phone case About $1.20 + case About $1.20

The rate didn’t change. What changed is which purchases count.

Products with many variants are riskier

If a product has two variants, most shoppers who watch your video probably buy the one you tagged. If it has 20 sizes and colors, sales spread across many ASINs and only a slice of them pays you.

A practical rule: when a product has 6 or more variants, decide which one to tag on purpose instead of tagging whatever page you opened first.

How to choose the variant to tag

  1. Open the variants you’re considering, one by one.
  2. Compare what each page shows: “X bought in past month”, number of ratings and price.
  3. Prefer the variant with the most recent purchases. If two are close, prefer the higher price, because commission is a percentage of the price.
  4. Film that variant, so what shoppers see matches what they buy.

CarouselScout’s variant compare does steps 2 and 3 for you with the variants you open, and suggests one to tag. It only reads pages you open yourself.

FAQ

The variant rule described here applies to onsite commissions from videos on product pages. Offsite links follow the general Associates rules for qualifying purchases. Check your earnings report for how each order was classified.

Can I tag more than one variant?

A video is linked to one product page. Some creators upload separate videos for variants that sell very differently; that costs more filming time, so do it only when both variants have clear demand.

Does the brand’s parent listing count?

No. The purchase has to be the same ASIN variant as the linked detail page, not just the same product family.
